Unwanted visitor! Rant...

One of these ran into my dining room, and then to my kitchen. Scared me screamed and ran as fast as I could. When I could breathe again, I checked back and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I made my husband look everywhere- under the cooking range, couch, refrigerator etc… He thinks it might have gone back outside, but the scared me thinks that it is still somewhere hiding inside. Scared me is now walking around the house very cautious, with high heeled shoes on all the time. Would it be in my pantry? Would it be under my fridge? Would it be in that cabinet where I keep my pots and pans, or in any closets? Everyone I talk to says there is nothing to worry about and it won’t bite. Some thinks it would make a nice pet. But hey, I don’t want a reptile in my house.

Lessons:

Don’t keep the door open unattended even for a minute.

If any such things happen again, instead of running away, stay back and watch where it is going.

Me too I am dead scared of these creatures. So I can imagine your plight :)
Did you find him ?
RP do you have wall lizards inside homes like we find here in India. I have this strange notion that we find them only in India and not else where in this whole world :)
I too like to keep my doors closed all the time:)

Hahaha!! Rp,great tips!!
I had a black snake slithered into my dining room and was cooling himself off on AC vent! I made some noise and opened the back door and he just slithered out!
I panicked for a second when I saw him inside but realized he is scared of me more than I was of him!Skink looks cool!;p

:D RP, that is a tiny cute creature... when I mouse-overed at the wiki link, I read it as a skunk, and that was scary... But the poor skink....
I'm sure its inside your closet nesting... :) Don't worry, she will be out in a month with some ten babies in tow... :D

Is skink ARANA??
...if it IS...I always have one entering through my French windows in a hot summer day.He resides in the backyard garden and very friendly, slithering back home after having a cool nap on the Italian marble flooring :)of the living room.
P.S-we are not scared of each other.:)..

I agree I am so scared, I had a snake in my garden just passed by my feet and I had goosebumps all over my body and stood stunned for couple of seconds and till that date I haven't been into the garden. I wonder Asha is brave to have seen the snake in the dining room, I would have been unconscious by then.

suganya, :) but but..they will be better off outside. They need lots of sunlight you know. ;)

archana, good to see a like-minded person. :) I haven't seen that Indian house lizards here. The ones we see here are more creepy!

saju, hehe, maybe. You are talking like my husband. :)

sia, lol I checked. You are naughty.

anonymous, thats funny. Cockroach is ok for me. :)

asha, you are one brave lady. I cannot imagine a snake. :)

shn, yes, she did scare me. :) I know many people like them, but it scares me a lot when I see one of those around me.

anusharaji, it was big! it had long blue tail.

tee, so good to see there are other people like me. :) In fact I had a question at the end of my post "What would you do if you were in my place" which I deleted right before publishing. Thanks for reading my mind and answering it. :)

sig, you are mean. :) Throwing a coconut at you. :D

manasi, you too? The thought of it inside the house was taking over my life. That's why I thought to share it with you all. :)

bharathy, I don't know if it is arana. So, you and the skink get along very well, I see. Good for you. :)

foodie, I agree asha is one brave lady. I would have been unconscious too.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts.

Awwww...I kept a gecko for a pet for over 5 years...it was the sweetest little thing, he died and I miss him..but once, he slipped off my lap and was running all over the floor and that was really scary to see him scurrying around like that :D

Oh! RP, I know how it feels! couple of weeks there is a small mouse visited my pantry room and dont know where it is hiding. Now i am having so much trouble even to enter my pantry everyday waiting for my husband to come home and get me all the ingredients staring from salt to oil. But luckly he promised me that he is going get bait and get rid off it soon. Fingers crossed.

i agree..how high are ur heels?.. i would be on stilts by now.did u find it?i am an anti repltile!

RP said...

jyothsna, hehe..you are just like me..and I thought I was the only one!

kay, I am forced to believe like that as I couldn;t find any signs as yet.

bhags, I wish I could find it somewhere so at least I know my fear is for a reason. Now I am not sure if it is inside. Might have jumped out when it heard me screaming. :)

suma, I hope so too.

meeso, it was good reading about your gecko. I am sorry you lost him.

aruna, oh a mouse! I wonder why do we have to be afraid of these little creatures. At least they are wayy smaller than us. All the best catching your mouse. Are you sure it is in your pantry? If it is, it might open your food bags.

sharmi, LOL take a picture!

mallugirl, I can't imagine you on stilts! :O No, I didn;t find it. My neighbor told me to look for any droppings, and I couldn't find any either. So I am forced to believe that it is not in the house any more. But I still have my shoes on. :D

hi... just came upon your blog via some other blog. It is really nice.
By the way, i want to thank you on bringing this reptlile stuff in limelight. I think you are brave to walk around the house (even tho in heels ;) I would be sitting in the bedroom on my bed with a sad and scared face!! i actually live in michigan and very happily leave my doors open so many times, to let the outside air freshen up my home. Never again!! thanks once more :)
