An award & a party!

I am so thrilled to receive this thinking blogger award from dear Manisha of Indian Food Rocks. Thanks a lot, Manisha. I would like to pass this on to Annita of My Treasure & My Pleasure. To celebrate the joy of my award, I decided to join the puri-bhaji party!

Whole wheat flour puris and simple potato bhaji!
So...it’s puri-bhaji everywhere! For the past several days, I can’t even step onto the blogpshere without seeing a puri-bhaji in front of me. Puri dough, flattened puris, puris in hot oil, bubbled up puris, flat puris, cluris….wow! Did everyone go puri-bhaji crazy? No, they are getting ready for the puri-bhaji party at Anita’s Mad Tea Party. How can I defy the temptation? I love puris, but I hardly ever make them because I hate it when the smell lingers around the house until the end of the day. So I make them 2 or 3 times in a year only.

The first one, of course, was a cluri!

Here is my mom’s simple potato baji(the one in my picture) recipe.

Oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Urad dal – 2 tsp(optional)

Curry leaves – a few

Onion – 1 small, chopped

Green chillies – 2 slit, or more

Turmeric powder – a pinch

Potatoes – 3 medium sized

Peel and cube the potatoes.

Heat up oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves in order. Add onion and green chillies and cook until the onion is translucent. Add turmeric powder. Add potatoes. Add just enough water to cover the potatoes. Bring it to a boil and simmer for 10-15 mts until the potatoes are done. Mash some of the potatoes with the back of a spoon. The curry will be thick. Serve with puris or chapathis.

RP, the bug got you too? It is absolutely irresistible! The smell of oil that lingers long after the cooking and eating is done is a big pain. I moved my deep frying to the patio, a small camping Propane stove comes very handy.

Poori/Cluri and potato baji looks yummy. The potato baji is similar to the way I prepare, except I add a bit of ginger to it.

I am still resisting from making pooris, the more I visit all your blogs, I want it more. I think Iam going to succumb to it :)

Your puri looks awesome, and non-greasy! This is why I hate deep-frying too, because of the smell that lingers in my ill-ventilated kitchen :(
