Finger Cookies

Fatty, Dirty fingers for Halloween!

Whisk together 1 stick of butter(1/2 cup, softened) with 1/2 a cup of powdered sugar. Add 1/2 a tsp of vanilla and 1/4 tsp of salt. Add 1/2 a cup of powdered oatmeal (You can powder it in a coffee grinder). Whisk to combine. Add a pinch of cinnamon powder or nutmeg powder for extra flavor. Now take a cup of all purpose flour and add in little by little. Mix with your hands to form a dough. I added a little less than one cup of flour. Shape into fingers(or any shapes you prefer) and press in an almond for the nail(blanch and peel the almonds first) on each cookie. Chill the unbaked cookies covered with a plastic wrap until it is firm. Bake 30 minutes in a 300 degree oven. Let it cool on a cooling rack. You can paint the nails using food colors if you want to.

This tastes great with a cup of milk or tea!

You can also dip the bottom end of the fingers in strawberry sauce and serve it with some more strawberry sauce sprinked around it. This will look like cut pieces of fingers in blood!

Be safe, and have fun trick or treating.

Definetely not part of the Indian culture. Unfortunately, people assimilate all these gruesome things thinking they are cool. How sad.

shankari, thank you.

fh, :) yeah, they look dirty, but they taste like shortbread. Thanks.

shaheen, :) kids loved these. Thank you. Saw 3? Nah, we are happy with cartoon network & foodtv. Did you watch the movie?

jayashree, I too thought they would look real if I didn't paint the nails. Had I painted them in red, they would have looked pretty. Thank you.

priya, kids just loved these. My daughter hates almonds and she couldn't even figure out what did I use for nails, and she thought nails tasted great!

hema, thank you. I have seen people using m&m candies for nails. You can use any of your favorite roll out cookie dough to make these.

anu-sachin, thank you. Watch out, there are more scary cookies and cakes out there. :)

anonymous, I am sorry if it made you sad. When it comes to cooking and eating, I tend to adapt from all cultures and my family enjoy it. Also, I couldn't tell my kid that she can't go trick or treating and have treats just because she is an Indian while all her friends are out having fun. I think it would emotionally hurt her if I do so. Maybe when she grows up a little more, I will tell her about the differences between cultures and I hope she will understand. Thank you again, and I guess coming in anonymously to criticize is not part of the Indian culture either. ;) Come on, I can accept it whoever you are.

priya, thank you.

shilpa, I am glad I could scare you. :) Thanks for dropping by.

reavathi, thank you. Anything to make the little ones happy! What's better than seeing their innocent smiles!

archana, thank you.

krithika, thank you. I hope you will like these.
